The Best Desgin Trends for your Kitchen Sink

The kitchen remodeling process and general design process is full of important decisions that need to be made. These range from stylistic decisions to functionality to layout. An important decision that can affect the style, functionality and layout of your kitchen is your kitchen sink. It is important to have ideas in mind when going through the process of remodeling, so here are some popular design trends when it comes to the kitchen sink.

Farmhouse Sink

A farmhouse sink is a rounded sink that often sticks out over the top of the countertop. This is a design trend that matches well with a rustic kitchen yet can be applied to many different styles. The materials used for a farmhouse vary, anywhere from porcelain to stainless steel. A farmhouse sink is decently sized in most instances as well, making them more practical than other sink style options.

Integrated Sink

The integrated sink is a seamless transition between the countertop and kitchen sink. The sink utilizes the same material, whether it be natural stone, stainless steel, etc. This is a very natural and modern look that gives the kitchen a natural flow. This trend fits particularly well with minimalist options such as handle less cabinets and stored appliances, as the flow between countertops and sink helps accent the open spacing of that design.

Undermount Sink

An undermount sink is a sink that is placed underneath the surface of a countertop. Like an integrated sink it is a seamless design, however, the sink drops down inside the countertops similar to a niche. This design trend helps with food preparation and makes clean up much less difficult, sliding directly from the countertop into the sink.

Single Basin

If you are a homeowner that does a lot of cooking, a single basin is a great option. It is cost-efficient option that is large enough to wash pots, pans and other cookware and deep enough to soak them when needed. While it is not as modern looking, there can be great stylistic potential with a single basin sink option.

Drop-In Sink

A drop-in sink is a sink style option that’s benefits are ease of installation and a traditional look. When it comes to the type of kitchens that a drop-in sink thrives in, it is less attractive in a modern kitchen and more common in a traditional or contemporary kitchen style. The most common material used with drop-in sinks is steel and they provide a rim around the outside of the sink, almost hanging on to the top of the countertop.
