Who doesnt need more time? We definitely can always use some cash. For most people the kitchen revolves around the pantry. That is the one place where a majority of the food is not only stored but also ends up going to waste. Many of us are familiar with the phrase Out of sight out of mind. If your pantry is like most, there are always those food items that get pushed to the back and are forgotten until you decide to clean it out and organize it again. Or people end up buying multiples of the same item, because they didnt know they already had it. There is nothing more frustrating than having to throw out food because it is past the expiration date or has gone stale. How many times have you been cooking dinner and spent time looking for that one ingredient that is buried somewhere deep in the pantry?
While having a pantry is a nice option, if we dont take the time to add a few extra interior options for organization it can end up being more of a nuisance. There are many options that can be added to the interior of your pantry and pantry cabinets that will help solve some of these problems. You can also add cabinets to the interior of your walk in pantry. If you dont have room for a pantry cabinet a lot of these same options can be added to the interior of your other cabinets adding to the organization of your kitchen.
Suggestions for an Organized Pantry
- Use a variety of shelving – There is an assortment of shelving that can be added to the interior of your pantry. You might opt for rotating shelves, a swing-out pantry or a lazy susan. You can use deep roll out trays or have racks installed on the interior of the cabinet door to store spices and smaller items. You want to make sure that the items in your pantry are visible. The goal should be to have them sit higher or be able to grab what you need without having to move things out of the way.
- Use the FIFO Method – Items first in should be the first ones out. Newer items should be placed in the back. It makes it easier to rotate if you have a system and food is less likely to expire.
- Utilize baskets – Baskets are becoming a new stylish trend but are also very useful. You can have pullout baskets that are a part of your pantry to store those bigger bulky items or you can purchase your own. They help with organization and keeping like items together.
- Use clear containers – Being able to see what is inside something helps to you know what you have. When you are getting low on something, and you can see it, it is easy to put it on the grocery list before it is gone. There is nothing worse than being in the middle of a recipe and having to run to the store for an item you ran out of or thought you had. If containers arent clear it is also easy to forget what you have. Items are more likely to go stale and moldy if you cant see them.
