Countertops kitchen remodelSearching for the countertop of your dreams seems easy enough how many can there be, right? Like with many choices in kitchen and bathroom remodeling, the options abound, so it is important to choose carefully.

Here are some tips for choosing yours:

Set your budget

First and foremost, you shouldnt spend more than you can afford when it comes to remodeling. When you meet with your designer with your budget range, work with them to split your budget across different areas of your project. Generally speaking we recommend a countertop be about 15% of your total kitchen remodel budget.

Find the materials

Figuring out which material will be best for your countertop remodel is the fun part. In order to do this properly, think through all the ways in which you use your countertop. If you cook frequently, invest in a durable material that will withstand scratches, heat and moisture. If youre a social host, find one that will stand-out, but also will stand up to red wine or juice spills.

Style and details

Many countertop materials, such as granite, quartz and laminate, allow you to choose from a whole slew of color and design options. Keep in mind other focal points in your kitchen, such as cabinets and flooring, and make sure your countertop style will compliment those nicely. You may also need to choose an edge profile, depending upon the material you select. Most standard edges for countertops are square, but there are decorative edges available at a slightly higher fee generally – bull nose, bevel, egg and ogee just to name a few.

Dont limit yourself

If you cant decide on one specific countertop material and style, there may be a stylish way to work in more than one. If you have a kitchen island, you can choose a different countertop material there as a focal point; or if the far side of your island is raised, that countertop material can differ from the main island area. If you like the idea of varying materials, see if your designer has an idea to make it work.

Choosing your countertop is like icing a cake. Youll want it to look beautiful, but also to work well with the rest of the ingredients. Contact our team if youre in the Orlando area and interested in discussing your options.
